LOCAL NAMES

Here are some UNOFFICIAL names that boaters and campers have assigned to locations over the years. There is a story you can read about behind the name below.... if you know of more please let us know.

Colonel's Ramp - actually Bruce's Eddy 2, the tale is some Army Colonel "Engineer" had this ramp added somewhere in the past after the original construction, odd thing is it has an S turn in the ramp. There should be a special bad place in the after life for the engineer that designed a boat ramp with an S turn.

Poop Island - The first floating out house / rest room they installed on the lake. It now also has a pump out.

Fred's Bay - Fred Arnholtz had an old houseboat, in fact the pontoons were actually concrete forms used in the construction of the dam. This was his favorite bay for fishing and spending the night.

Gravity Surge - One September a group encountered a region with extraordinary gravity pulses or surges pulling who ever tried to traverse the mud bank down on their behind. No one was able to stand and walk normally.

Gooberville - This is now the group area. Folks that camped there in the past ate a lot of peanuts in the shell. Peanuts are called Goobers in some parts and the name stuck.

Stone Henge - A prime golf course location when the waters down. Peculiar rock formations. Quite possibly arranged by aliens.

Big Shark - If you are traveling upriver you can see this huge image of a shark coming down the mountain about to devour the campsite. Well, there use to be a shark, the tree growth is starting to hide it. This is the only wheel chair enabled site on the lake.

Big Snake - Nice camp spot with tall grass. A very large rattle snake was discovered one Fourth of July. Lots of wake action in the summer because of the park across the way.

Kape Kramer - Another floating restroom island station named for Cosmo Kramer on Seinfeld and his experience with a bowel movement gone bad.

Archie's Apeligo - This ridge point topography looks like it dives fast into the lake, however at about 90 feet down, a long, long ridge extends far out into the reservoir and can cause real problems to unsuspecting boaters when it it just a foot under water.

Green Anchors - A nice camp spot and site of an infamous anchor yank and prop redesign. Did you know that a propeller can wind an anchor rope up in seconds. The anchor can also remove one of the prop blades in that same short time.

Bird Belly Beach - During one of the first summer draw downs a large bird with a giant belly was sand sculpted on the beach.

Satellite Bay - Housboats have been known to beach here and set up a satellite dish to watch football in the fall.

Mambo Flats - The North Fork of the Clearwater River is silting in the reservoir as expected. When the water is down there are huge flats on the head end of the reservoir with the river slowly meandering in wide sweeping curves through the mud. The mud does vegetate in after a while and makes for a eerie scene. Like a jungle flat where you could find safari critters like hippos, giraffes, elephants and the occasional crocodile.

Cheezit Bay - Way up there..... (Breakfast Creek), a large bag of Cheezits was consumed by three gentlemen one sunny exploratory spring day. There use to be a floating concrete dock here long ago.
